JUST IN: QPR star to leave as a free agent at the end of next month…

QPR defender Aaron Drewe is set to depart from the club when his contract expires at the end of next season, as confirmed on the official club website.

The 23-year-old full-back will be leaving QPR in late June, becoming a free agent and exploring his options for a new club for the upcoming term. Drewe has been a part of QPR’s setup throughout his career, progressing through their academy ranks.

Expressing his sentiments, Drewe stated, “There are a lot of emotions right now. When you have been at the same club basically your entire life, you grow attachments and relationships with people and the club, and it becomes part of you. But I also do feel it’s the right time for my career to move on.”

QPR man to leave

Drewe joined QPR at the age of nine and has been with them for 14 years. He represented the London outfit at various different youth levels as a teenager.

He was given the green light to head out the exit door on loan for the first time when non-league outfit Chelmsford City came calling.

After his time at QPR, Drewe had temporary spells at Oxford City and Weymouth to gain valuable experience.

His senior debut for QPR came in January 2022 during an FA Cup match against Rotherham United, which they won on penalties. Drewe made a total of 13 first-team appearances for QPR, including two league matches in the last campaign under Marti Cifuentes.

Despite his contributions, QPR has decided not to extend his contract, a decision that seems beneficial for all parties involved. Given slim chances of securing a regular spot in the starting lineup, a departure will offer Drewe an opportunity for a fresh start elsewhere.

What next for QPR?

Drewe’s departure from QPR will open up space and financial resources for the club to bring in new signings.

QPR has not yet released their retained list as they prepare for the upcoming season.

With a positive mood and momentum from securing their position in the league, QPR will approach pre-season confidently.

Manager Marti Cifuentes, highly regarded, has revitalized the club and aims to further imprint his style on the team during the upcoming transfer window.
