Why the reported transfer interest from Portsmouth, Preston, and Oxford in a Championship wing-back might not go through…

Pompey Face Potential Mickel Miller Disappointment Amid Rumored Interest in Plymouth Wing-Back

Pompey may face disappointment if rumors about their interest in Plymouth wing-back Mickel Miller prove accurate. The Blues have been linked with a free-transfer move for the 28-year-old, who has impressed at the Championship level with the Pilgrims. Pompey, along with Preston North End and fellow League One promotion winners Oxford United, have all been credited with an interest in the versatile left-footer, who has yet to agree to a new contract extension at Home Park.

In April, Plymouth’s director of football, Neil Dewsnip, appeared relaxed about the situation. He mentioned that talks with Miller and his representatives were progressing well. Despite some trepidation at the time regarding the Pilgrims’ Championship status, Dewsnip was confident that Miller would remain at Home Park if the club retained their place in the second tier.

Plymouth successfully retained their Championship status with a final-day win against Hull, finishing just above the relegation zone. Although Miller missed that game due to knee ligament damage sustained against Leicester on April 12, Dewsnip remained determined to keep the former Rotherham player as part of their plans to avoid relegation.

Discussing Miller’s contract situation with the Plymouth Herald last month, Dewsnip said, “His contract does run out at the end of June. Negotiations have already taken place, so we are well down the pathway. Social media rumors suggesting he was leaving with another player are unfounded.”

Referring to Brendan Galloway’s similar contract situation, Dewsnip added, “We have talked to both players and their agents, and discussions are ongoing. The obvious question is which league we will be in. Both players have performed well in the Championship and want to stay at that level. As long as we remain in this league, I don’t foresee many issues.”

Miller’s knee injury was expected to sideline him for 4-6 weeks. Meanwhile, Pompey, keen to strengthen their squad ahead of their first Championship season in 12 years, have been linked with several players but have yet to make any signings following their League One title-winning season.
