TRANSFER NEWS: Charlton Athletic Take the Lead in Transfer Battle Against Blackpool, Oxford United, and Bristol Rovers…

Blackpool Outpaced as Charlton Athletic Close In on Dunfermline’s Josh Edwards

A player previously linked with Blackpool appears to be on his way to a League One rival, according to recent reports.

The South London Press has reported that Charlton Athletic is close to finalizing a deal for Dunfermline Athletic defender Josh Edwards. The club aims to announce two major signings this week, with Luke Berry also in discussions following his release from Luton Town.

Earlier reports from Scotland suggested a seven-figure bid for Edwards was turned down by Dunfermline, although this has been denied. Charlton is now looking to finalize an agreement for Edwards’ transfer by the end of the week.

The 24-year-old left-back has attracted interest from several League One clubs, including Barnsley, which had a bid rejected in the January transfer window. Bristol Rovers entered the race last week, and last month, it was claimed that Lincoln City, Oxford United, Wycombe Wanderers, and Blackpool were also interested.

Edwards is under contract at East End Park for another 12 months, following the club’s decision to activate a clause in his contract. He played a crucial role in Dunfermline’s sixth-place finish in the Scottish Championship this season, making 42 appearances and contributing nine assists and four goals across all competitions.

Since joining Dunfermline from Airdrieonians in 2019, Edwards has been an essential part of the team, notably helping them win the Scottish League One title in 2023 and earning a spot in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year for his performances.

This season, Edwards has played alongside Blackpool’s Brad Holmes and Owen Moffat at Dunfermline. While Holmes was released by Blackpool earlier this month, Moffat remains under contract at Bloomfield Road until the summer of 2025.
