Charlton Athletic are in discussions to sign Luke Berry from Luton Town, according to the South London Press. However, they face competition from Oxford United, who are also keen on the midfielder.
Charlton Athletic are preparing for a significant summer transfer window to bolster Nathan Jones’ squad for the 2024/25 season. Under Jones, the Addicks avoided relegation, but with several players departing, a major recruitment drive is anticipated at The Valley.
The South London Press reports that Charlton is negotiating a move for Luke Berry, whose contract with relegated Premier League side Luton Town is set to expire. The 31-year-old midfielder is expected to leave the club.
However, Charlton isn’t the only interested party. Darren Witcoop has reported that League One play-off winners Oxford United are also eyeing Berry.

Both Luton Town and Berry are set to return to the EFL, though separately. Berry joined Luton in 2017 and has been a key player, scoring 26 goals and providing 17 assists in 184 appearances. His stint in the Premier League, where he played 17 games and contributed two goals and an assist, was a highlight of his career.
A potential reunion with Nathan Jones, under whom Berry spent much of his time at Luton, could be appealing. Berry’s experience and familiarity with Jones could make him a valuable addition to Charlton’s midfield, ensuring a smooth transition.
On the other hand, Oxford United, led by Des Buckingham, offers Berry the chance to play at a higher level in the Championship. This could be an intriguing option if they make a formal move for him.
As the transfer window heats up, Berry’s next destination remains to be seen, with both Charlton Athletic and Oxford United making strong cases for his signature.
