Colchester has offered McGeehan, 29, fresh terms after he made 39 league and cup games for the U’s since coming on a free transfer last September. However, the former Luton Town favourite claims he has yet to decide what will happen next in his career.

McGeehan wrote on his Instagram page, “Another season playing the beautiful game.” I returned to England after three years in Belgium, eager to tell everyone that I was back, and began a new season in League 2.

‘It was a hard to decide whether to stay in Europe or return home, but after missing preseason and the first six games, it was time.

‘You can’t beat 3 p.m. on a Saturday and the English banter, and I’m grateful to everyone at @colu_official for a fantastic year playing with some top young players and a terrific group of people.

‘I’m thrilled to get in the box and score double figures.

‘I’m not sure what’s next for me yet, but it’s time for a vacation with my baby boy and lovely wife, who constantly inspire and encourage me.’

Colchester has offered new contracts to four out-of-contract players from the first-team squad this season.

The U’s have also presented fresh contracts to Noah Chilvers, Al-Amin Kazeem, and Chay Cooper.

Meanwhile, John Akinde claims he is ‘looking forward to another new beginning’ after being informed by Colchester that he will not be offered a new contract.

Earlier this week, the U’s discharged four first-team players, including the seasoned striker.
Akinde wrote on his Instagram page, “Three seasons of survival, but we survived. We had a rollercoaster of emotions along the way, but we wouldn’t change it.” I also met some fantastic people. There’s enough in the tank. I’m looking forward to another new beginning!! Let’s go!!!
Akinde, 34, made 86 appearances for the U’s, scoring 12 goals, after signing from Gillingham in January 2022.
