Following the club’s play-off first leg triumph, OXFORD United’s CEO, Tim Williams, expressed excitement about the potential atmosphere at a new stadium.

U's CEO excited by atmosphere potential at new stadium

The U’s defeated Peterborough United 1-0 at Grenoble Road, backed by a raucous home crowd.

The Kassam Stadium, with its three sides, has apparent weaknesses when it comes to creating an atmosphere, and United are aiming to build a new home at The Triangle, south of Kidlington Roundabout, as the club’s licence deal at the Kassam expires in 2026.

Williams stated, “I look at what a new stadium could be, and what a night like this could’ve looked like in a brand-new 16,000-seater stadium.

“That doesn’t take away from what we accomplished here. There is a huge army of people that collaborated to put this on, who brought everything together and made it happen.

“It just doesn’t happen by chance, and I want to thank every single one of them for making it happen.

“What you witnessed was the pinnacle of what we could do, and it was fantastic to witness.

“What an amazing vibe. The screaming and singing remained continuous throughout the game.

“It’s exactly what we need, and we need that week in, week out.”
