Stay with me forever' - Sheffield Wednesday striker bids farewell with emotional thank you message

The Owls forward spent two terrific seasons with the club after being signed by Darren Moore following their relegation to League One, and his contribution to the 2022/23 promotion season will never be forgotten. His third season, however, did not go as planned, as he spent the majority of it out of the squad under Danny Röhl.

Now, with his contract expiring at the end of next month, the 35-year-old has addressed his farewell on social media, thanking fans for their support during his time at the club.

“I have not been on this for some time now,” he wrote on Twitter. “But I just wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone at SWFC.” This past year has not been what I had hoped for or how I expected my career here to end. I’ve been gutted about it and wish things had turned out differently. As everyone who knows me knows, I only wanted to play. I’m really glad the crew stayed up because you all deserve it.

“With the promotion last year, I had some of the best experiences a footballer can have at this club, and those will last a lifetime. The atmosphere at home versus Peterborough was the finest I’d ever seen or experienced. I’ll be seeing you shortly at Hillsborough since my son, who is now a huge fan, wants to watch every game. “Thank you.”
