Sheffield Wednesday have gotten a golden chance to sign 7-goal striker as his club is relegating

Sheffield Wednesday might have an unexpected opportunity to secure the signing of a highly regarded striker in the upcoming summer transfer window.

As they strive to secure their place in the Championship this season, Sheffield Wednesday find themselves in a unique position. For the first time this season, fate seems to be favoring them.

Birmingham City’s hopes of Championship survival hinge on defeating Norwich City. If Birmingham wins and Sheffield Wednesday loses to Sunderland, the Owls could face relegation based on goal difference.

However, if Sheffield Wednesday manage to secure at least a draw in their match at the Stadium of Light, they will remain in the Championship regardless of Birmingham City’s result.

With attention slowly shifting towards the summer, speculation mounts regarding potential changes at Sheffield Wednesday under manager Danny Rohl. Owner Dejphon Chansiri will undoubtedly be considering what alterations can be made at the club, with a significant summer transfer window looming.

One player who has made a positive impact at Hillsborough is Ike Ugbo, who is on loan from French club Troyes. Ugbo’s loan spell has been fruitful, with notable contributions to Sheffield Wednesday’s campaign.

Despite facing possible relegation, Ugbo has showcased his talent, demonstrating commitment and determination on the pitch.

Although Rohl was questioned about the possibility of signing Ugbo permanently, he chose to focus on the immediate task at hand, with the Sunderland match taking precedence. Meanwhile, in France, Troyes is grappling with their own relegation battle.

Currently positioned in the bottom three of Ligue 2, Troyes has struggled in recent matches and faces a crucial fixture against Annecy in their season finale on May 17th.

The major obstacle in possible Ike Ugbo transfer

Ugbo has certainly given Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday reason to bring him back this summer.

And with Troyes now facing relegation from the French second tier, it seems highly likely that Ugbo would want to move on to bigger and better after his impressive season in the Championship.

But with Ugbo under contract at Troyes until 2026, the French outfit are under no real pressure to sell this summer, and so he won’t be cheap at all.

The only pressure may be cashing in on Ugbo whilst his stock is high, which it certainly will be; especially so if Troyes are relegated as the vultures will no doubt swoop in and try and poach him.

Expect other teams to want to take a punt on Ugbo, with other Championship clubs bound to be looking at him ahead of the summer following his impressive streak for Wednesday.

Ugbo won’t command a huge transfer fee if Troyes are relegated and with Sheffield Wednesday set to streamline their wage bill this summer, there could be room in the budget for a move for Ugbo.

The Owls will have to hope that first; Troyes are relegated, and second; that they have the first say on the 25-year-old’s future.
