Jurgen Klopp seems ready to pass the torch to Feyenoord’s Arne Slot this summer, stating that his phone will be open if Slot wants to discuss the Liverpool squad he’ll inherit.
However, Klopp won’t be pushing for such conversations, believing that his work on “Liverpool 2.0” extends beyond his tenure. When asked about speaking to the new manager, Klopp emphasized that it’s not his call.
He stated, “I’m not in a position to give advice. If the new folks want insights, they can reach out – my number is widely available. I’m open to discussing anything about this club. But it’s not my role to initiate contact. I’m willing to share whatever I know.”
Despite the slim chances of a fairytale ending with a Premier League title, Liverpool have secured Champions League qualification after Tottenham’s recent loss to Chelsea.
Klopp feels relieved, suggesting that with the pressure off, he can now enjoy his final three matches in charge, starting with Tottenham, followed by Aston Villa and Wolves.
“That’s the plan for sure,” he remarked. “It might take some convincing to fully embrace Champions League qualification, but it’s still a cause for celebration.”
“It’s not truly enjoyable if you end up losing the following game, especially on your home turf, against teams like Aston Villa and Wolves. That’s the nature of football.
True enjoyment comes from winning matches, and that’s what we’re striving for. We’re putting in the hard work during training to prepare the team, and we’ll see what we can achieve. But yes, my intention is to find joy in the process.
Although securing Champions League qualification would be considered a success, there was a point when Liverpool had aspirations for a quadruple after winning the Carabao Cup in February.
They seemed contenders for the league title, FA Cup, and Europa League as well. However, despite having a young squad and a revitalized midfield, Klopp believes that his successor can continue the team’s progression.
He sees his departure not as a halt but as a continuation of Liverpool’s evolution.
He remarked, ‘We aimed to clinch the league title, but it didn’t materialize. However, it’s crucial to view things from a long-term perspective. Liverpool 2.0 doesn’t end with my tenure; it’s merely the dawn of a new era for the club. They’re poised to take the next strides forward.'”
The manager of Liverpool is optimistic that Mo Salah will remain with the team, emphasizing that any disagreement they had during their recent match against West Ham has been resolved.
He also expressed admiration for Salah’s skills as a player and refrained from commenting on his future, suggesting that such decisions are ultimately up to Salah and others involved.
