A Spanish journalist provides Chris Jack with an updated Ianis Hagi-Rangers transfer.

According to Inigo Minon, Ianis Hagi, who was loaned to Rangers this term, is unlikely to return to Alaves again next season after a disappointing season on loan with the La Liga side this term.

Following a slow start to life with Alaves this term, the Romanian international’s chances of returning to Spain next season are minimal, according to the El Correo journalist to the Rangers Review on Monday (26 February).

Any agreement that would see him prolong his stay with Alaves after the season’s end would come as a surprise, as the 25-year-old’s performances this term haven’t “earned” him a permanent move away from Ibrox.

Es muy probable que Hagi se vaya a Euro 2024 como jugador de los Rangers, pero después del torneo de este verano, aún no está claro dónde y para quién jugará.

When the season ends, will Ianis Hagi rejoin the Rangers?

Some Rangers fans were taken aback when Micahel Beale made the decision to let Hagi go in the last few weeks of the summer transfer season, particularly given how well the Romanian had played in his brief time.

Many supporters were hoping that the 25-year-old would return to Ibrox early in the January transfer window because they thought he would provide a drive and inventiveness to the midfield that had been lacking.

But just a few months later, it’s still unknown if the Romanian will play for Rangers once more as his future is still up in the air. It looks that a permanent move to La Liga is already out of the question, and Philippe Clement might not require him for the upcoming season.

This season, Tom Lawrence and Todd Cantwell have shown well under the Belgian, and Clement will almost definitely favor them in an offensive midfield role when healthy. Because of this, Hagi finds it extremely difficult to consistently break into the starting lineup.

Though a lot could change in the upcoming days, weeks, and months, it’s now difficult to predict where Hagi’s future rests.RE
