Ridvan Yilmaz domino prepares to tumble as AC Milan medical booked in reported £4.7m pursuit

Verona are set for a potential €5.5m (£4.7m) cash injection from the sale of Filippo Terracciano to AC Milan amid links to Rangers star Ridvan Yilmaz.

The Serie A side have been extensively linked with a move for the Turkish international left-back, 22, with reports on the continent claiming the Rangers star is on his way to Italy.

It comes amid a series of high-profile links between Rangers and several left-backs in the January window, with Verona star and ex-Hibs full-back Josh Doig routinely mentioned.

Now, young Italian talent Filippo Terracciano – a right-winger who has been keeping Josh Doig out the Verona team at left-back this season – could be the first domino to fall in this intriguing transfer story.

Filippo Terracciano to AC Milan, Ridvan Yilmaz to Verona?

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Filippo Terracciano will undergo a medical at AC Milan on Monday (08/01) with a view to completing a deal which could eventually be worth €5.5m (£4.7m).

The Italian giants are expected to pay an initial €4.5m with €1m in add-ons with the deal now expected to go through at the start of the week.

This could potentially free up the funds for Verona to sign Ridvan Yilmaz, who will cost the Italians given he’s contracted to Rangers until 2027.

Whilst Filippo Terracciano is traditionally a right-winger by trade, interestingly Verona have employed him at left-back for the bulk of the season.

Keeping Josh Doig out of the side as of late, the situation points to Verona needing fresh investment in the position as the club looks to retain its Serie A status this season.

Amid the AC Milan links, Filippo Terracciano was nowhere to be seen in the squad as Josh Doig continued at left-back for the trip to Inter Milan.

The left-back played 73 minutes before being replaced by Thomas Henry, who equalised with a his first touch for Verona after Lautaro Martínez poked Inter into a first half lead.

Davide Fratessi scored what proved to be a dramatic winner in the 93rd minute of the match, reacting first as the Verona keeper spilled a long-range effort.

With Verona star Ondrej Duda down in the box throughout the attacking phase of play, Darko Lazovic was given a red card amid the remonstrations.

Josh Doig amid several Rangers-linked left-backs

Rangers signed Ridvan Yilmaz in a £3.4m deal which could rise to £5m from Besiktas in the summer of 2022 but his time in Glasgow has over the piece been a bitter disappointment.

There is undoubtedly a talented young player there but the former Besiktas star has struggled with adapting to life in Scotland and a series of injury problems at Ibrox.

If Rangers can recoup what they paid – or even make a slight profit on the defender – it might represent a safe outcome for all parties even if the left-back has impressed in recent matches.

Any transfer fee raised would also be a welcome boost to Philippe Clement’s winter coffers as he prepares to reinforce the Ibrox club’s squad this January.

As Filippo Terracciano prepares a switch to AC Milan, perhaps this boost could come this week as Verona look towards Rangers and Ridvan Yilmaz.

Josh Doig obviously continues to be linked but with a fee of €6m (£5.2m) being quoted in the press we’d be very surprised to see a permanent deal happen.

With the young Scotland hopeful also linked to Serie A side Torino, Rangers may well have to look elsewhere as the club hope to mount a successful title challenge in the second half of the season.

There have been several names mentioned recently, with out-of-contract Kai Wagner, PSV talent Fredrik Oppegard, and returning Liverpool loanee Owen Beck all linked.
