Report: Rangers closing in on £20m man Clement called an ‘unpredictable’ talent

Rangers are reportedly closing in on the signing of Nottingham Forest’s £20 million forgotten man with the Nigeria international out of favour at the Premier League outfit.

Philippe Clement said after the 3-1 midweek win over Kilmarnock that he expected his side to be ‘very active’ in the transfer market.

And active they certainly are, Fabio Silva already through the door – the former PSV Eindhoven and Porto striker arriving on loan from Wolves – with Rangers now turning their attention to a left-back and further attacking additions.

Rangers linked with Emmanuel Dennis swoop

According to claims coming out of Belgium, reported both by Het Nieuwsblad and Het Belang van Limburg, Emmanuel Dennis is ‘on his way’ to Ibrox.

A familiar face to Clement, Dennis could be reunited with a coach he worked under at Club Brugge in Belgium. The skilful Nigeria international scored twice against Real Madrid in the Champions League for Clement’s Brugge outfit. He also found the net against Manchester United in the Europa League that very same season.

And terhaps a reunion with a coach who knows him well will light a fire under Dennis again. The spark went out for the 26-year-old at the City Ground, falling out of favour and farmed out on loan to Istanbul Basaksehir just 12 months after joining Nottingham Forest for an eye-watering £20 million.

The report adds that Dennis’ Turkish stint could be cut short in January, opening the door to Rangers.

A reunion with Philippe Clement at Ibrox

“You never know in advance which players will explode,” Clement once said of the one-time Bundesliga forward.

“Dennis is someone who is unpredictable, even for the opponent.”

The mercurial 26-year-old is not exactly renowned for his consistency. But when fit, firing and at his most confident, Dennis can strike fear into even the most high-profile of defenders. It’s not long since he produced 16 goals and assists in 33 Premier League games in the yellow of Watford.

As things stand, it is not certain whether Dennis would join Rangers on a loan basis. For any deal to be a permanent one, Forest would have to accept a massive cut on their £20 million outlay. He could, perhaps, be a long-term replacement for Abdallah Sima if Rangers’ top scorer returns to Brighton in the summer. Dennis’ best days have come when he is lining up on the left of a front three.
