Rangers star did not show up to int’L training camp, airfares were paid – report

Rangers: Mohamed Diomande update as Ghana pay for flights this week

Ghana were expecting Rangers player Mohamed Diomande to show up to their training camp in Marrakech after paying for his airfare, according to the Rangers Review.

The news outlet reported on its website on Thursday (21 March) that the 22-year-old hasn’t showed up to the Black Stars’ headquarters despite being called up to both their main squad and the Ivory Coast U-23s team this week.

It noted that the Ivorian-born midfielder now looks ready to select his country of birth following the tug-of-war for his loyalty between the two countries.

It’s the early form Diomande has displayed in a Rangers shirt that has garnered him the recent praise from both nations.

It’s an odd scenario that Ghana paid for his tickets to join them at their training camp since it shows they assumed he was going to represent them.

The midfielder qualified to play for the Black Stars since he owns a Ghanaian passport after growing up in the nation and playing in their Right to Dream Academy.

But it appears as if he wants to represent his nation of origin and no one can really criticize him for that decision since it’s the option most people would probably make.

The fact he’s contemplating selecting a position in the Ivory Coast U-23s side indicates how devoted he is to play for them when a chance with the Ghana full squad is on offer.
