Report: Striker informed he can leave Euro club, Rangers want to sign him in Jan

According to Daily Record, Kevin van Veen has been given permission to leave Groningen despite ongoing interest from Rangers and the Scottish Premiership.

Van Veen has insisted that the Gers are still interested in him despite turning down a move to Ibrox in the previous transfer window. The Scottish newspaper reported [page 48, 5 January] that his current club are open to the idea of allowing the player to leave during the January transfer window on a permanent transfer.

It’s claimed that most of the Scottish Premiership would prefer a loan arrangement, even if Groningen would only consider a permanent deal for their striker.

“There is still interest even though I rejected them in the summer,” he stated in a recent interview that the Daily Record was able to transcribe.

“I can reach out to every club in the Scottish League directly, but Groningen wants to sell, and they all want to loan me money.”

The center forward, who was formerly with Motherwell, attracted a lot of attention the previous summer and moved to Groningen in the Netherlands, where he has made 15 appearances and scored five goals.

Van Veen’s 40 goals in 83 games for The Steelmen gave the other Scottish clubs a close-up look at his skill. It makes sense that Rangers would be interested given Philippe Clement’s concerns about his performance in front of goal.

The Dutchman appears to still have complete control over Rangers, despite having turned down the Gers last summer, but obviously not over Groningen, who won’t let him go on loan.

Due to Danilo and Kemar Roofe’s injuries as well as Abdallah Sima’s absence for the 2023 African Cup of Nations, Clement has recently placed all of his trust in Cyriel Dessers. Although Wolves’ loan addition of Fabio Silva has expanded the Belgian’s options, a true striker is still needed.

whom poacher whom the Rangers are looking for is Van Veen. Is he the club’s best option? That is still to be determined. Furthermore, Rangers might not want to invest in a 32-year-old at this time because Groningen is anticipating a large financial contribution in order for the deal to close.
