Rangers boss admits form star could be the next to leave Ibrox – on one condition

Philippe Clement admits Ridvan Yilmaz could leave Rangers - but on one condition

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has admitted that Ridvan Yilmaz could leave Glasgow this January – but only if the deal suits the Ibrox side.Speaking after Rangers’ 2-2 draw with FC Copenhagen at Ibrox, the Rangers manager was being pressed on the club’s January transfer business.

As part of this, the situation surrounding Ridvan Yilmaz was brought up with the left-back strongly linked with the Ibrox exit door this month.

Reports of a rejected Galatasaray bid have been supplemented by strong links to Serie A side Verona.

Philippe Clement on Ridvan Yilmaz

Whilst the Rangers manager wouldn’t respond to the links directly, the manager made it clear that everyone in his squad is available for the right price at the right moment.

That includes Ridvan Yilmaz, in comments which are perhaps a subtle nod to the particulars of Galatasaray’s loan-to-buy bid not suiting Rangers.

Until the situation changes and someone either puts up or shuts up, it’s clear Rangers won’t be letting the Turkish international leave.

“I cannot respond on that because – and not for any player who is here – I am busy with one thing,” said Philippe Clement when asked about Ridvan Yilmaz.

“Everybody who is here is a player of Rangers and I commit fully with all the staff to get the best out of them.

“But for every player at Rangers, if there comes an offer that is not to be refused, or it’s a good thing for the club at that moment, then we need to discuss it.

“For the moment it’s not the case so Ridvan is here and he’s started the game also, so I see it that way.”

The Rangers manager also said this when asked if Ridvan was a player he’d like to see stick around:

“We will see. We will see what’s going to happen. It’s also players need to show they really want to be here the next couple of months so we need to be prepared for everything, for every position also, that if something happens we have solutions. That is one position that we have two players; one is end of contract and the other one there is a lot of rumours around. So it’s clear that we need to be ready for that position to have solutions.”

Later the manager added: “We cannot go on in three competitions with one left full-back, that’s clear, for example. And in other positions it’s the same.”

Rangers transfer exit could beckon

We don’t really have to read too much between the lines to see that the situation with Ridvan Yilmaz’s future remains a live one for Philippe Clement.

The 22-year-old Ibrox left-back appears a player in demand but Rangers will not be forced into selling unless the deal suits them in this window.

It’s also clear the club are tailing a new left-back amid the backdrop of Ridvan Yilmaz’s situation, with Borna Barisic also out of contract in the summer.

For now, it’s a waiting game to see if either Verona or Galatasaray will meet Rangers’ demands although a transfer expert has been telling us the left-back would rather not move back to Turkey.
