Journalist: Rangers seek a £1.3 million move as a new offer reaches Koppen’s desk.

Rangers have rejected a fresh bid from Galatasaray for left-back Ridvan Yilmaz as the Ibrox side close in on Brazilian alternative Jefte.

According to reputable Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu of Sports Digitale, Galatasaray had tabled an initial offer of €3m (£2.5m) plus add-ons ahead of Rangers’ clash with St Mirren.

The offer would initially see Ridvan return to Turkey on loan after 18 months in Glasgow before completing the transfer in the summer.

However Sabuncuoglu would return to X after the match to claim that the Ibrox club have since rejected the offer for the form left-back.

Claiming that Rangers instead want a compulsory purchase agreement of €4.5m (£3.8m) at the end of the loan, it’s said Galatasaray are musing over the offer.

These claims appear to refute suggestions in other areas of the Turkish press that an “agreement” between Galatasaray, Rangers, and Ridvan Yilmaz has already been struck.

Ridvan Yilmaz to Galatasaray?

Rangers fans following the situation with Ridvan Yilmaz will be a little underwhelmed by the suggestion the Ibrox side might let the player leave for around £3.8m.

Reportedly aiming to eke just another £1.3m out of Galatasaray, there’s a feeling we’d regret letting Ridvan leave for a cut-price fee.

The 22-year-old left-back – who joined in a £3.4m rising to £5m transfer from Bestikas in the summer of 2022 – has finally begun to emerge at Rangers.

Given his young age and standing in the Turkish game, there’s a feeling this transfer fee might be a little understated.

Ridvan also continues to be utilised by manager Philippe Clement, who has previously suggested the defender will only be allowed to leave if Rangers’ valuation is met.

At the same time, Ridvan Yilmaz has reiterated his commitment to the cause at Rangers, taking to social media to claim he’s happy in Glasgow during the week.

At the same time, Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk has labelled the signing of a left-back as a “priority” in the January window.

Rangers transfer bid for left-back Jefte

The reports come with Rangers reportedly close to agreeing a deal with Fluminense for young Brazilian left-back Jefte.

Currently on loan at APOEL Nicosia, the final hurdle to agreeing a deal is said to be striking a deal with the Cypriot league leaders to let the attacking 20-year-old leave.

Speaking after the 1-0 victory over St Mirren in Paisley, Rangers manager Philippe Clement was asked if he could clarify the situation with Jefte.

”I didn’t hear Nils, or James, or the chairman,” said Clement. “So I didn’t look at my phone also yet.

“If there’s nothing signed with a player, I cannot say anything.”

As the links between Galatasaray and Ridvan Yilmaz persist, another Rangers left-back in Borna Barisic is out of contract come the end of the season.

Whether Jefte is coming in to replace Ridvan Yilmaz or Borna Barisic we will have to wait and see, but change certainly appears to be coming in the position.
