“False”: The family of the Rangers star refutes Ibrox exit rumors

Gheorghe Hagi has knocked down reports that son Ianis is looking to leave Rangers on a permanent basis in the summer.

The Ibrox winger is on loan at Alaves this season after recovering from months out injured in Scotland, where he missed practically the entirety of 2022, and has so far made 22 appearances for the Spanish side.

But in reaction to allegations supposedly saying that the 25-year-old doesn’t want to return to Rangers and is trying to be sold elsewhere Legendary Romanian Gheorghe called the notion “false” and reiterated that Hagi, who is younger now, is still under contract with the Light Blues and will play at the highest level come next season.

According to the Daily Record on March 20, Hagi senior stated: “Remember, he returns following a year-long injury! As a result, while we can’t see Ianis at his best right now, we will next year. Although he is just on loan at Alaves, he is still under contract with Rangers.

“He definitely has a contract with the Rangers.” It is untrue what I read that he wouldn’t have wanted the Rangers either.

Under Philippe Clement, Ianis Hagi to receive a Rangers reprieve?

Hagi may still have a future with the Rangers if he can truly bounce back and perform at his peak once more. A lot has happened since he departed Glasgow at the beginning of the season.

He wasn’t receiving much of a look in under Michael Beale, which suggested that his Ibrox career was finished.

However, after the previous manager was fired and Philippe Clement took over, the club’s entire situation has been revitalized, including the arrival of players like John Lundstram who appeared to be short-lived.

The Belgian manager may like to see Hagi in person in the summer before making any long-term decisions, as he has demonstrated in the months since taking over that he will make his own decisions on how to handle things.

The futures of two injured star players who are presently on loan—Oscar Cortes and Abdallah Sima—will have a significant impact on the need to add fresh players in the wide areas.

Hagi might find it difficult to get enough playing time if one or both of them signed a permanent contract; however, with Ross McCausland, Scott Wright, and Rabbi Matondo currently the other options, and Sima of Brighton possibly being too expensive, as well as the fact that it’s unclear how a long-term injury has affected the likelihood of completing the acquisition of Colombian youngster Cortes, it appears that Hagi still has a chance.

He will actually be recovering from a significant fitness issue ahead of a few possible rivals, unlike last summer, so even while a move is still expected, it might not be as inevitable as it was a few months ago.

Two seasoned Ibrox stars are expected to depart the Rangers because “you can’t rely on them,” according to other team news.
