As per Rangers’ official X account (26 January), the Gers have signed Diomande from FC Nordsjaelland on a loan until the end of the season, with an obligation to make the transfer permanent in the summer for an undisclosed fee.
The 22-year-old will arrive in Glasgow once his work permit application has been confirmed.
It represents a significant coup for Philippe Clement, with Diomande previously on the radar of some top Premier League clubs.
A recruitment source with close links to Scandinavian football has revealed to Ibrox News that Spurs were previously offered the chance to sign Diomande.
However, it looks as if Tottenham’s chairman Daniel Levy missed a trick, with the midfielder now on his way to Scotland.
Diomande made more than 100 appearances for FC Nordsjaelland during his time in Denmark.
He is an experienced player who has represented Ivory Coast Under-23s at international level, and will be looking to take the next step in his career when he arrives in the Scottish Premiership.
He has made 21 appearances in all competitions this season, registering five assists, including one in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
A player who can operate as a central midfielder but also further forward in attacking areas, Clement will hope Diomande can help the Gers in their pursuit of Celtic.
The Hoops are currently top of the league, five points ahead of Clement’s men who have a game in hand over their fierce rivals.
