Journalist Mark Hendry of Football Scotland, who verified the autograph on X on Friday (January 26), said as much.

The 22-year-old left-back played for Sheffield United of the Premier League during the first part of the season while on loan from the Foxes.

Hendry said on X, “Luke Thomas, linked with both Celtic and Rangers this window, joins Boro.” Boro confirmed the signing on their official website on January 26.

Although Thomas is a truly exceptional talent, his career has faltered a little after making his Leicester debut.

The left-back, who excelled in the Premier League while playing for the Foxes prior to their relegation to the Championship, was able to return to the top division shortly after joining the Blades on loan.

However, that season-long loan was terminated earlier this month, informing teams like Celtic and Rangers. As a result, Middlesbrough has emerged victorious in their pursuit of signing him.

The product of Leicester City’s academy will now play for Michael Carrick’s team for the balance of the current campaign.

However, Rangers won’t be overly deflated because, according to Fabricio Romano’s report on X on Friday, they have a deal with Fluminense to sign fellow left-back Jefte.

It is now perhaps just Celtic that need to bring in a new player in that position, which will be welcome news for Rangers supporters.
