26yo linked with Rangers exit could be reunited with familiar manag

It’s never a great sign for a forward when you spend the whole game on the bench when your team needs a goal, the position that Sam Lammers has found himself in for Rangers recently.

The 26-year old was highly thought of as a youngster, drawing comparisons to Ruud van Nistelrooy with Michael Beale hoping that he could rekindle that sort of form – he couldn’t and it cost him his job.

As players return to fitness, Sam Lammers will get even less game time for Rangers but it may be that he is given a lifeline by the manager who once believed in him, as reported by the Newcastle Chronicle.

After playing 31 times this season following his £3m move from Atalanta, it is fair for fans to have formed an opinion on the playmaker, it is also fair for Gers boss Philippe Clement to have made his mind up, one way or another.

In those 31 games he has contributed just two goals and two assists.

For perspective, Kieran Dowell has scored more goals despite being missing for most of the season and playing in a deeper role.

Sam Lammers has made Peter van Vossen and Filip Sebo look clinical in his short Rangers career.

Getting Lammers out on loan has to be a priority and Michael Beale has been linked with a reunion at Sunderland.

His stock was pretty low when he left the Ibrox hotseat but he would win a few Brownie points if he did take the troubled forward off our hands.

Sam Lammers is still young enough to find the right club and contribute again but it is painfully obviously now that Rangers isn’t the right club.
