Within weeks, Rangers will let go of a senior player who has served for many years.

According to Taka Gazete, Borna Barisic will be released by Rangers when his contract expires at the end of the current campaign.

The Croatian international has reportedly started talks with Super Lig club Trabzonspor about joining them on a free transfer, according to a report published on the Turkish news outlet’s website.

This indicates that with fewer than 16 weeks remaining, the 31-year-old left-back, who has spent the last six years at Ibrox, will leave ways with the Gers in an emotional manner when his contract expires on July 1.

Borna Barisic has served the Rangers admirably.

Since moving from Osijek to Rangers in 2018, Barisic has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to the team.

Throughout his 230 games with the Gers, the left-back has contributed 54 assists and 10 goals with his accurate long-range passes.

The Croatian was instrumental in the team’s 55th league title in 2021 and their 2022 run to the Europa League final.

But under Philippe Clement, the Turkish international has now surpassed Barisic in the pecking order after being earlier brought in to become the team’s long-term replacement on the left side of the defense.

The Light Blues supporters will wish him luck in the next phase of his career once his contract eventually expires, albeit he will undoubtedly still have a part to play over the next weeks.
