Mohamed Diomande, who formerly played for the Ivory Coast, has received his first call-up to the Ghana team.
Ghana manager Otto Addo has called up the Rangers midfielder, who has shown promise since moving to Glasgow in January.
Diomande is one of four players who will make their debuts for Ghana in the upcoming matches against Uganda and Nigeria.
Additionally, despite having played under-23 for the Ivory Coast, the Ibrox ace is scheduled to represent Ghana in international competition.
Originally from the Ivory Coast, Diomande relocated to Ghana at a young age in order to pursue a career in professional football.
According to a Ghana FA article, “Diomande Mohammed of Rangers of Scotland, Nathaniel Adjei of France, David Akologo of Bolivia, and Nordsjaellands Ibrahim Osman have been named in Ghana’s 26-man squad for this month’s international friendly against Nigeria and Uganda.”
“After outstanding performances with their respective clubs, the trio and Frederick Asare of Asante Kotoko have earned their first call-ups.
“The friendly games scheduled for Marrakech, Morocco marks the beginning of the new era under Otto Addo.”
Just one month after wearing an Ivory Coast shirt to mock teammate Leon Balogun at Rangers training, Diomande has gained international recognition.
Following the AFCON triumph over Nigeria, the midfield player celebrated with a lighthearted conversation with Balogun while sporting the national team shirt.
After being discovered in the Ivory Coast by talent scout Joe Mulberry, Diomande moved to Ghana as a young player. And at age 11, the midfielder would make his first impression of Rangers.
“I got the shirt from a guy who scouted me from Abidjan when I was 11 years old. He’s called Joe Mulberry from England,” Diomande said in a historic photo wearing Rangers colors.
“When I was in the academy, he scouted me out of Abidjan and bought me a Rangers shirt, which I wore for some private training in Ghana.
“I’ve been following Rangers a lot and I’ve seen what they have achieved.”
