Pundits clash over the postponed Dundee vs. Rangers game, Michael Stewart and Rory Loy at one other’s throats

The two BBC experts teased one other with remarks full of irony.

Rory Loy and Michael Stewart were at each other’s throats during a furious argument over the postponement of Dundee’s match against Rangers.

After two pitch inspections this morning at 9.15 am and again an hour later, the Ibrox club arrived at Dens Park to find the action had been canceled. Referee Don Robertson clarified that the call was made with player safety in mind, and despite Dundee and Rangers’ frustrations, they both accepted it.

Manager Tony Docherty also expressed his want for the game to continue, while Dees chief John Nelms outlined how he felt it could have. While their opponent Philippe Clement was annoyed that their opponents had not informed them sooner that there was a problem, he accepted the whistler’s decision.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound, Stewart thought the clubs might have been more responsible for any potential problems if they had accepted to play and taken ownership of the game if they had wanted it to proceed.

In the meanwhile, Loy believed that the decision should be made by the officials rather than the clubs or the players. That was the delicious part.

In Michael’s imaginary universe, what would happen if one club said they wanted the game to proceed? Loy asked a question. Tony Docherty has stated that he respects the judgment of those who are knowledgeable on the subject and that he doesn’t know enough about it. However, we desired a chance for the game to proceed. What would occur if one club was seated and declared they wanted to play, while another club said we didn’t?”

Stewart added, “Well, it’s pretty evident, isn’t it? The match would not proceed.” Loy went on to say: “So Rangers make the decision and not Dundee?” Stewart replied, “It’s a crucial point,” in response. You’re purposefully attempting to distort what was said, Rory. My argument is that, in a close call, if two teams desire to play, I don’t see anything wrong with the game taking place. I believe that anyone with even a passing degree of intelligence will be able to see this. That is all there is to it.”

The people who know what they’re talking about and the powers that be have to make the final decision,” said Loy, taking a backseat. And anyone with a semblance of common sense would be able to comprehend that.”
