Tam McManus blames Dundee and the SPFL for the “shambles” that resulted in Rangers’ postponement at Dens Park.
The pundit reacted on Twitter on April 10 after Don Robertson called off the rescheduled match due to an unsuitable surface caused by heavy rain during the day.
At 11.30am, the official considered the surface suitable. However, by 3.30pm, the situation had considerably changed, which McManus stated was expected.
The former Hibs striker wrote: “To be fair, this is a shambles, and the blame lies with Dundee and the SPFL. With the weather anticipated, the game should have been cancelled by this morning at the latest.

Given that this game was only scheduled for a Wednesday night because the original 17 March date was postponed at the last minute for the same reason, and Dundee’s weekend loss to Motherwell only went ahead after multiple pitch inspections, it is a poor outcome if the same thing happens again.
There must be contingency preparations in place to avoid this type of problem if it is predictable, as the weather forecast and recent events indicated.
The game has been rescheduled for next week, following the last pre-split fixtures at the weekend. Earlier reports suggested relocating it to a neutral stadium or perhaps Ibrox.

It remains to be seen whether the league will be better prepared if the same problem arises a third time, as it will pose even more fixture complications otherwise.

Dundee secretary Eric Drysdale stated that investment is being sought to address the pitch’s needs over the summer, but it is too late to prevent current issues.
Following the previous postponement, it appears the mentality was to simply hope for the best with the new date, which hasn’t worked out.
