Derek Ferguson has encouraged the Rangers to pursue long-term contracts with Abdallah Sima and Oscar Cortes because he thinks they both “love it” here already.
Though he has been injured since January, Brighton winger Sima is one of the team’s best offensive additions from the summer transfer window. His Lens replacement had a great start but needed surgery after only seven games.
Ferguson believes the two loanees, who were taken aback by the stature of the club, want to stay involved at Ibrox and hopes the Light Blues are working behind the scenes to retain both of them.
“Hopefully, it would be great if we could work away in the background and get the two of the boys signed up,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.
“We were crying out for a little bit more width in the team when Sima goes away on international duty and gets that hamstring injury. We needed somebody with that kind of injury.”
“Cortes was brought in by the management, and in that little time, he was outstanding.
“Sima is returning home and seems to be having fun at the club. With Cortes, you can tell that they like going there since, in addition to their park performances, I sometimes see them being interviewed by the media for the radio, television, and newspapers.
They seem content and adore it. Perhaps they are surprised by how large Rangers Football Club is and just want to be a part of it.

“I just think that would excite the fans if a deal could be done to get the two of them signed.”
Can Rangers afford the wingers from Lens and Brighton?
The 20-year-old Cortes from Ligue 1 would undoubtedly be the less expensive of the two, particularly considering how much money Brighton has able to extract from Chelsea in the summer window.
However, the players’ intents may have some influence on the issue. Sima, who has previously said that he would want to remain, has failed to feature for the Seagulls in three seasons while on loan, so they could be open to a fourth if he pushes for it.
However, it may be difficult for Philippe Clement to keep both on long-term contracts unless Rangers make a significant profit on a departing deal this summer, particularly if the likes of Lawrence Shankland are still potentially available.
