Cyriel Dessers acknowledges that his improved play has been influenced by his “connections” with two Rangers players in particular.

Cyriel Dessers admits his on-field ‘connections’ with two Rangers stars in particular have factored into his upturn in form. The Nigerian striker was a hefty £4.5m summer signing from Serie A side Cremonese and was the second-most expensive of former manager Michael Beale’s recruits.

Although Beale wasn’t able to bring out the best in Dessers, his new manager, Philippe Clement, has demonstrated that he has the skills necessary to have Dessers playing at the caliber he should.

The 29-year-old, who appeared well short of the millions paid for him, scored just once in seven Scottish Premiership games under Beale, according to Transfermarkt.

However, Dessers’ confidence and strike rate have significantly increased. In his last 13 league appearances, he has contributed 11 goals, which has helped Rangers overtake Celtic at the top of the standings.

According to the Daily Record, Dessers is well aware of his recent performance and knows that, with Philippe Clement in charge, he is scoring a goal per 100 minutes.

And in his opinion, that sums up exactly how the Belgian has affected his style of play and the guys who provide Dessers with the goals.

In particular, they are captain James Tavernier and the revitalized left-back Ridvan Yilmaz, according to the former Feyenoord striker himself.

Cyriel Dessers on the “connections” between Ridvan and Tavernier

Cyriel Dessers declared, “I’ve looked at the numbers. With the new manager, I believe I have scored one goal every 100 minutes. That conveys a lot. Even so, there might have been more. I have had other opportunities and I have hit the woodwork six times.

“I believe there is still more to come, and the gaffer was undoubtedly involved in this.” He instilled trust in the team and in me. You may utilize that as a striker since we are playing well. It’s all been quite natural, we didn’t do crazy things.

“We worked hard, we worked hard on the connections with the other players like James Tavernier and now Ridvan Yilmaz on the other side. These are things you need to work on. There’s a big contrast between now and the start of the season. I feel as though I am in a good place.

“That’s what I always said. Once I found my spot, settled in and I always felt I would be able to show my qualities for this team. I’ve said this before, I haven’t reached my top form yet. There’s more to come from me individually and from the team also.”
