In the opening leg of the Europa League round of 16, Rangers defeated Benfica 2-2 away from home, despite having the lead twice.
In an attempt to secure a spot in the tournament’s quarterfinals, Rangers will host the Portuguese powerhouses at Ibrox on Thursday for the second leg of their match.
Benfica academy graduate Tavares forewarned the Portuguese team that they would face an intense and crazy environment at Ibrox on Thursday.
The Hibs player also emphasized that sometimes it feels like opposing teams are competing on the field against the Rangers supporters, highlighting the intensity with which these supporters support their team.
Tavares told the Portuguese daily A Bola that Benfica will face an intense and fast-paced environment.
“Those seem like the perfect words to sum up the vibe at Ibrox.
The Rangers’ supporters are fervently committed to their team and incredibly noisy.
“They never stop talking, helping the team all the way through, and sometimes it even seems like they’re playing against you on the field.”
Rangers will be keen to go to the next round even though they haven’t defeated Benfica in their previous three encounters. The game takes place at home on Thursday.
