QPR ‘confident’ of landing Premier League player amid Championship interest

QPR are ‘confident’ of signing Newcastle United loanee Isaac Hayden on a permanent deal this summer, despite interest from other clubs, according to Darren Witcoop on X.

QPR brought the midfielder down to the second tier during the January transfer window to improve their midfield options. He helped the London club retain Championship status under Marti Cifuentes and is now set to return to his parent club in the north.

Hayden, 29, is still under contract with Newcastle United until June 2026, but he has fallen down Eddie Howe’s pecking order, which is why he has been loaned out twice this season. He spent the first half of the season in Belgium with Standard Liege before returning to England.

In the most recent update on his future by reporter Witcoop on social media (see below), the Hoops are eager to sign him on a long-term basis. However, they may face competition from unnamed league rivals in the coming window.

QPR eye player return

Landing Hayden ahead of next season would be a wise move for QPR if they can turn down interest from other clubs and bring him back to the capital.

The former England youth international is now an experienced player, having been promoted to the Premier League twice in his career, first with Hull City and then Newcastle United.

He would provide valuable competition and depth to the R’s midfield department, and he is already familiar with their players and manager from his loan spell.

Hayden joined Arsenal from Southend United as a youngster and made two appearances for the club’s first team. He was loaned to Hull City before signing with the Toon Army in 2016.

Since then, the Chelmsford native has played 171 games for St James’ Park, scoring seven goals, and has also spent time with Norwich City and Standard Liege.

His chances of breaking back into Howe’s plans in the coming years are slim, given the options available to his parent club in his position. As a result, an exit to QPR would benefit all parties involved.

What’s next for QPR?

These are exciting times to be a QPR fan, and Cifuentes has restored the club’s positive energy.

If they can maintain their momentum from their survival push into the next season, they could be a formidable force.

Hayden arriving permanently would be a smart move and would be a safe pair of hands to call upon in games.
