The former defender for Norwich has played 239 games for the Blues.
Sean Raggett’s absence from Lincoln has been explained by John Mousinho, who has also touched on the defender’s future.
Surprisingly, the center-half was left out of the starting lineup for Saturday’s 2-0 victory at Sincil Bank, which sealed a successful season.
He was the runner-up in The News/Sports Mail’s Player of the Season vote and had previously appeared in every Pompey League One game since the team’s 3-2 victory over Reading in October.
Instead, Ryley Towler was given Raggett’s starting position in the first team, and he went on to dominate the Imps, winning man-of-the-match.
Naturally, Raggett’s contract expires this summer after five years on the south coast, and Mousinho was subsequently questioned regarding the defender’s circumstances.
Sean wasn’t involved because, as he stated to The News, “I wanted to see Ryley and Conor (Shaughnessy) play together and I wanted to see Conor on the right-hand side.”
“He wasn’t in the squad because we haven’t had center halves on the bench the last few weeks due to our really attacking benches.” For the last two weeks, Ryley hasn’t been on the bench because Connor (Ogilvie) can play two positions.
Connor could have filled in for two of the back four positions if there had been an injury. Trying to win a football game was the main focus of everything.
We’ll talk to all the boys about Sean’s future on Monday.
We will make the final decisions on Sunday night after everything has settled, and we will hold meetings and act on those decisions on Monday. At that point, the retained list will be accessible.
Lee Evans, who started the 3-2 victory over Barnsley that secured the League One title two games prior, was also absent from the 18-man roster.
The former player for the Wolves and Ipswich is one of the 14 players without a contract who are currently awaiting word on their Fratton future.
“As far as we have seen from Lee, we have seen everything we need to see from him,” Mousinho continued.
What we really wanted out of Saturday was a bit of a mix of everything, but we just needed to see Tom (Lowery) and Tino (Anjorin).
“We have made a few decisions there that we might not have made if we had needed something from the game, but we always knew going into the match that we would have a very, very strong side.”
