Pompey Close in on IMPORTANT appointment by chief Andy Cullen

‘Very shortly’: Portsmouth close in on key appointment as chief makes Championship statement of intent

As Pompey nears the appointment of their new head of recruitment, Andy Cullen promised that the club would continue to push for growth.

The Blues’ chief executive confirmed that Phil Boardman’s successor is on his way as part of a major department restructuring.

And Cullen believes that work invested in that area of the club demonstrates Pompey’s commitment to developing their infrastructure following their Championship success.

Brad Wall of Manchester City is expected to arrive at PO4, with the former Liverpool and Rangers player being recruited as a top-level operator.

It’s another notable addition as the club’s football operation continues to lay the groundwork for success.

Rich Hughes’ appointment as sporting director in September 2022 was a huge success, both in terms of player recruitment and in bringing John Mousinho to Fratton Park.

The duo has worked admirably and collaboratively with the club’s coaching, analysis, medical, and sports science departments.

Pompey’s return to the Championship after a 12-year absence will significantly increase demand.

That will certainly be the case when it comes to bringing in the necessary additions to ensure Mousinho’s squad is prepared for what lies ahead.

Cullen believes Pompey is ready for the challenge, and they will not rest on their laurels.

He said, “We have a very good team in place.”

‘Everyone understands the strategy, and we have a head coach and sporting director who are completely aligned.

‘We will be supplementing the recruitment team shortly with a new team and structure.

That’s how we want to work. We want to consistently improve the football club. Just because we have achieved success does not mean we should stop.

‘We are constantly looking for ways to improve everything we do so that we can continue to grow.
