Champions Celebration: Portsmouth boss’ message as he readies for Southsea Common celebrations

As Pompey prepares for the League One championship party, John Mousinho has urged his team to cherish the moment.

On Sunday, Southsea Common is expected to be crowded with thousands of Blues supporters as the city honors the League One champions.

After the incredible scenes of the League Two celebrations in 2017 and the FA Cup parade in 2008, this afternoon is sure to leave a lasting impression.

And Mousinho has urged his team to enjoy every minute of what looks to be a memorable afternoon for the city and football team.

“I’ve heard all about the celebrations (in 2008 and 2017), I’ve heard it’s pretty special,” Mousinho remarked.

While it’s helpful for us to imagine these things, nothing can truly prepare you for the actual event. If you were to ask me to try to picture Barnsley before it happened, I could think about it.

The players should, in my opinion, simply savor the moment and have fun. Things like this don’t happen very often.

Though you never really know when they are going to materialize, hopefully they will for the football team once more, just as they do for specific people.

It’s just a matter of living it; things do move swiftly. With all the images, videos, and commentary that go along with it, I’m sure people would love to relive Barnsley. You can relive those shiver-inducing moments by looking back; I know I have.

Everyone should therefore enjoy themselves on Sunday because playing football is a tough injury to have. We’ll pick ourselves up on Monday in order to get ready for the upcoming season, as soon as everyone has had a good time on Sunday.

After defeating Barnsley in League One and raising the trophy against Wigan last week, Pompey has been basking in the aftermath of a season that broke all records.

Mousinho said that while the enormity of his success is still overwhelming him, there have been some memorable moments along the road.

“Stuff keeps popping up; players see it, staff sees it,” he continued. Every day, new things appear.

One can witness events from their perspective, allowing them to relive the moment. Conor’s goal and the final whistle are two other fantastic moments to remember.

Everything appeared to occur at the ideal moment. After Barnsley, I seem to recall Jon (Harley) telling me to check out the directors’ box. The view was breathtaking.

You had complete control over the colors and the way the game unfolded during the evening session. A better script would have been extremely difficult to write.

Even at 2:30 in the morning on the night I returned to my Southsea home, you could still hear it going off everywhere. It was a pleasant occasion and a great moment to have.
