Oxford United faithful hail ‘outstanding signing’ for impact on and off the pitch since Blackpool move

Owen Dale has immediately established himself as a popular figure at Oxford United since joining from Blackpool in early February.
Since his arrival at the Kassam Stadium, the 25-year-old has made 16 appearances for the U’s, scoring once and assisting three times to help Des Buckingham’s team reach the playoffs.

The Oxfordshire club recently uploaded a social media video of the ex-Seasiders forward surprising fans with signed shirts and play-off tickets.

Many Oxford supporters praised Dale and the impact he’s had, with one writing: “What a signing Owen Dale has been, in every aspect.”

Another Oxford United fan commented, “It’s difficult to recall a player who endeared himself to the fans as quickly and seamlessly as Owen Dale.” He recently joined in January, but it feels like he’s been here for years. “A fantastic signing.”

A third said, “You get the idea Owen Dale really loves being a footballer and bringing delight to fans of all ages. “He’s a custodian (and a winger).

A fourth said, “Love this bloke, he’s a credit to the club.”

Dale started for Oxford in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Peterborough United in the first leg of their play-off semi-final. The two sides will face again on Wednesday at Weston Homes Stadium (kickoff at 8 p.m).

The Crewe academy product spent the first half of the season at Bloomfield Road, where he was primarily employed as a left wing-back, appearing in 23 league games. The 25-year-old had spent the previous season on loan at Portsmouth, where he scored two goals and supplied six assists in 50 appearances.

After joining Blackpool in 2022, he left on Deadline Day, having played 47 games overall.
