Simon Jordan has labelled Manchester United as lucky following their FA Cup semi-final victory against Coventry City in which the Sky Blues put in a heroic performance. City were 3-0 down with 19 minutes to play at Wembley, before producing a jaw-dropping comeback to take the game to extra-time and penalties.
Premier League giants United eventually prevailed from 12 yards. However, that was not before further drama as Coventry had a would-be winner ruled out – by VAR – with 120 minutes on the clock.
Coventry earned rave reviews with the footballing world watching as they pitched up at the national stadium to give United an almighty scare. As for United, meanwhile, they were fortunate to go through as Erik ten Hag’s team look forward to an FA Cup showpiece with neighbours Manchester City in a repeat of last season’s final.
Sharing his verdict on the match, ex-Crystal Palace owner turned talkSPORT regular Jordan tweeted: “How lucky.” He added a Manchester United hashtag to his post, which has picked up hundreds of likes and responses.
Cheered every step of the way to Wembley – and throughout the game – by a raucous following, Coventry found themselves 3-0 behind after goals from Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes. However, a revival inspired by Ellis Simms, Callum O’Hare and Haji Wright put them on the brink.
Victor Torp also had the ball in the United net as extra-time drew to a dramatic close, but that strike was chalked off for the barest offside call with Wright narrowly beyond the last defender before teeing-up his City team-mate. Then came the cruellest ending with O’Hare and Ben Sheaf missing from the penalty spot.
