Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl understands that the club only needs one point on the final day of the season to maintain their Championship status, but he has stated that he wants his players to finish strong and win all three.
Sheffield Wednesday’s new manager, a German, has led the team to a new level since October. After failing to win any of their previous ten games, the Owls’ fortunes have changed dramatically since his arrival, and they are now within touching distance of safety.
The Yorkshire side enters the final day in a very strong position, having gone unbeaten in their last five games, three of which have been wins. The Owls are in 20th place, three points ahead of Birmingham City (who are in the final relegation spot) and two points ahead of Plymouth Argyle (21st).
If neither of those teams earns the maximum number of points on the final day, Rohl’s team will play in the second tier the following season. The manager aims to maintain control and secure all three points against Sunderland away from home on Saturday.
It’s a bit of a dead game for the Black Cats, who know they’ll be in the Championship next season and can’t go down. As a result, they may be available for the taking, as Rohl will undoubtedly inform his players.
In an interview with The Yorkshire Post, the German expressed his desire to win all three points against Sunderland.
“We won’t go to Sunderland looking for a point; we’re going for three. “This is the mindset I want in my players.”
“For me, now is not the time to be lazy or afraid; if we are lazy, we will have problems.
“After the Blackburn game, I stated that we were not in a position to defend anything; instead, we wanted to attack the next position. We’ve moved up a position, which means we’ll be attacking again next week.
“Then we’ll bring the game home, and the job will be done. We are so close now that we must rely on ourselves rather than the other teams.”

The Owls have had a truly incredible season finale after being in disarray under former manager Xisco Munoz. Even as recently as last month, they appeared to be on their way back to League One, but a five-game unbeaten streak has significantly improved their chances of survival.
The future looks bright for Rohl, who, at 34 years old, has a lot of potential as a manager. If they can keep their Championship status, they should perform better next season, and the Owls could be a team to watch.
Given that Sunderland doesn’t need anything from the game, Wednesday’s chances improve, and they appear to be returning to the second tier next season.
