Coventry City and Evans for Everyone have partnered to give away free sanitary products to Sky Blues fans at the Coventry Building Society Arena on home matchdays.
Starting with tonight’s International Women’s Day game against Rotherham United, the new plan will be implemented.
Together, Evans for Everyone and Coventry City are working on this project to address the issues of accessibility and period poverty, particularly at large events.
The Coventry Building Society Arena’s female and disabled restrooms will provide the sanitary products at no cost.
Tampons and pads will be provided via newly erected stands in the restrooms, in collaboration with Evans for Everyone.
Evans for Everyone is a bargain retailer with locations in Birmingham and Coventry that is accessible to the general public without the need for membership. They have a large assortment of goods, such as cleaning supplies, pet food, home goods, snacks, drinks, and alcohol. Their website, www.evanscashandcarry.co.uk is accessible.
With this effort, we seek to dispel any potential barriers stopping women from attending our fixtures by assuring female supporters that period supplies are readily available on site, should they be needed.
Additionally, this will deal with period poverty, which is defined as the inability to adequately attend to one’s menstrual demands as a result of financial hardship. It is estimated that one in ten girls and young women in the UK are unable to access these products.
Jodie Jones, Coventry City’s Head of Supporter Services and Fan Experience, stated:
We are thrilled to be collaborating with Evans for Everyone on this project, which we believe will empower our female supporters to confidently attend games.
“As a mother of daughters who accompany their father to the games, it will be comforting to know that supplies are available in case they or anybody else needs them while visiting us on matchdays.
“I firmly believe that women should also have critical sanitary supplies readily available to them if requested. Hygiene essentials, like as toilet roll, aren’t something you are expected to pay for in public restrooms.”
Evans for Everyone is a female-owned local business, so the Sky Blues working with them on this program for our fans makes perfect sense.
Evans for Everyone’s owner, Sarah-Jane Evans, stated:
“As a woman and an ardent Coventry City Football Club supporter, I have a particular place in my heart for this effort.
“As essentials, sanitary items shouldn’t cost women anything, in my opinion. It is not a decision; rather, we are dependent on these things.
“In line with this belief I am proud that Evans for Everyone is able to support this project, especially with International Women’s Day just around the corner.”
Chief Commercial Officer Tynan Scope of Coventry City stated:
“As a local company, we are happy to collaborate with Evans for Everyone and to provide this to our female fan base.
“As a father of two daughters, I am incredibly pleased of what our football team is doing and of Jodie Jones’ dedication in providing this for our female supporters.
“We immediately said “yes” to collaborating with Coventry City on this project after speaking with Sarah-Jane at Evans for Everyone, and the timing of this in conjunction with International Women’s Day couldn’t be more ideal.”
