Liam Kelly, a midfielder for Coventry City, has no intention of hanging up his boots as his contract with the Sky Blues approaches its expiration.
Kelly, the captain of Coventry City, has witnessed a lot throughout his tenure with the team. Since his summer 2017 arrival from Leyton Orient, the Sky Blues have faced challenges to advance from League Two to the Championship.
Over the course of nearly seven years, Kelly has played 175 times for the squad. Although he hasn’t always been the first name on the roster, the Scot has proven to be a reliable player when called upon, and his leadership and experience off the field are invaluable.
Recently, injuries have allowed the 34-year-old to return to the team. After leading the squad to consecutive league victories over Rotherham United and Watford, speculation over his future has surfaced.
In a conversation with Kelly about his future, Coventry Live declared that he would undoubtedly carry on with his career after the campaign is finished. Although the story states it is unlikely that he would sign a new contract with Coventry City, his contract expires this summer, so he won’t be leaving the team anytime soon.
He said, “Yes, definitely,” in response to a question about pursuing his career.
“Even after spending extended periods of time away from the gym, I still feel fit and capable of playing for ninety minutes.” I think I have at least a couple more seasons in me. I just need to continue playing for Coventry whenever I’m asked to, as I feel strong and fit.
