Leon Chiwome now sends emotional message after making Wolves debut v Coventry

Wolves were dumped out of the FA Cup yesterday in heartbreaking fashion, but it was still an immensely proud day for Leon Chiwome.Wanderers hopes of winning a fifth FA Cup were ended after a late comeback by Coventry, after Wolves themselves had got their noses in front late on.

Goals from Rayan Ait-Nouri and Hugo Bueno had cancelled out Ellis Simms’ controversial opener.

But the Championship side found two goals in injury time from Simms again and Hagi Wright, and the result is a very tough one to take.

That said, after the game Gary O’Neil admitted his side were second-best, and took full responsibility for the defeat.

After the game, young striker Leon Chiwome took the Instagram, after he made his debut in the match…

Yesterday, O’Neil started Nathan Fraser up front again, just as he did against Fulham the weekend before in the Premier League.

It was a tough shift for the 18-year-old, who did not see a great deal off the ball, having only 13 touches of the ball during his hour-long appearance (via Sofascore). For context, Ait-Nouri had 87 and Pablo Sarabia had 75.

Chiwome replaced him, and the 18-year-old did make a good impression. He ended up having 12 touches, so almost as many as Fraser despite being on the pitch for half the amount of time.

Chiwome added more physicality for Wolves, and he put himself about.

No chances came his way, but the teenager can definitely be proud of his efforts and after the game yesterday, he took to social media to express his feelings. He said: “Devastating result, but an extremely proud moment for me and my family to make my first team debut @Wolves. All glory to God.”

Chiwome may have given O’Neil food for thought

It was great to see yet another young talent at Molineux in Chiwome be given a first-team debut.

He actually gave a really encouraging performance yesterday when he came on and he can be pleased with his efforts. Wolves may have lost the game, but his cameo was a small positive.

He put himself about and showed a physicality that he didn’t really see from Fraser.

Chiwome – who’s a player that club are very excited about – might just have given the manager something to think about moving forward.

Matheus Cunha will be back after the international break and the Brazilian will no doubt be leading the line once he is fully fit.

But Chiwome may just have done enough against Coventry to encourage O’Neil to hand him a few more minutes off the bench.
