BREAK DAWN After “one of the best-ever ties,” Coventry upsets Wolves in injury time to advance to the FA Cup semifinals.

One of the all-time great FA Cup matches was Coventry’s comeback triumph over Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to former England player Leon Osman.

As stoppage time approached, Coventry was behind after two quick goals appeared to have put their opponents through. But Ellis Simms tied the score with his second of the match, and in the tenth minute of extra time, Haji Wright scored the winning goal.

On BBC Radio 5 Live, Osman stated, “We’ve witnessed one of the best FA Cup quarter-finals I’ve seen.” It’s been an incredible football match.

“Coventry has been the focus of this game; most teams would have assumed that was it if they had fallen down so late. Simms and Wright, who together have scored a lot of goals, are Coventry’s top scorers, and they have advanced to the semi-finals.”

The Premier League Wolves and Championship team Coventry were tied at the half after Simms missed the greatest opportunity of the opening frame. However, the former Everton striker gave his club the lead early in the second half, with his goal coming after a drawn-out handball check.

Coventry had numerous opportunities to increase their lead, but Wolves keeper Jose Sa made some outstanding saves and poor finishing to deny them. When Hugo Bueno put Wolves ahead 2-1 and Rayan Ait-Nouri equalized following a defensive blunder, it appeared as though they would be punished for their wasted opportunities.

But there was still time for more action, and Coventry persisted. In the seventh added minute, Simms headed home at the back post, and he then found US international Wright, who curled home the winner.

Thanks to Coventry’s victory, a team from the Championship will play in the FA Cup semi-finals for the second year running. After finishing in the final four of the previous season, Sheffield United was promoted to the Premier League despite losing to Manchester City at Wembley.

“Wolves had been kicking the ball away, they accepted taking their time and accepted extra-time, but Coventry went for one more attack and it paid off,” Osman said. “Coventry didn’t look like they were against a side eighth in the Premier League.”

The first of the four quarterfinal matches took place on Saturday, with Coventry defeating Wolves and holders Manchester City playing Newcastle in the other match. If Leicester defeats Chelsea on Sunday, they will have the opportunity to advance two Championship teams to the semifinals; the other matchup pits Manchester United against Liverpool.

Simms told ITV, “It’s going to be a great occasion at Wembley.” “We intend to finish the job. We will give it our all and enter the next round with all guns blazing, even though it will be difficult against a good Premier League squad.”
