Although Coventry City didn’t emerge victorious in their Semifinal clash against Manchester United, they certainly won the admiration of many, including staff and residents at MHA Charnwood House in Coventry. David Busst, a former Sky Blues defender and current head of community, along with colleagues from Sky Blues in the Community, paid a visit to the residential dementia care home, which houses 65 residents.
Prior to the match, residents gathered in one of the lounges adorned with Coventry City football shirts, scarves, and flags to watch the game together. David Busst, accompanied by John Szyndler, the Mental Health and Well-being Manager, and his PAT dog Winnie, brought joy to the residents. While David engaged with the residents, it was Winnie who stole the show with her undeniable charm.
Ellen Bishop, the activity coordinator, shared her excitement about the visit, noting that most residents are Coventry City fans. The connection between the home and David’s team was established through a resident’s family member who knew John. The visit was a success, with David and his team interacting with the residents, sharing stories, and discussing football.
Despite the disappointing outcome of the match, the residents enjoyed the day, bonding over their shared love for football. David Busst echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the unifying power of football in bringing people together. The visit provided an opportunity for residents to connect with the outside community and create cherished memories.
