The Callum O’Hare transfer factor that could dictate if Coventry City get play-offs

The way Coventry City finished 2023 showed that the Sky Blues are still a contender for promotion this year.

After losing to Luton Town in a penalty shootout, Mark Robins’ team advanced to the play-off final the previous season but was unable to secure a spot in the Premier League.

It appeared as though they were still reeling from that setback because of their dismal start to the term.

Considering how crucial Viktor Gyokeres and Gustavo Hamer were to the team, their departures didn’t improve the situation.

However, the team has improved recently, climbing to eighth place in the Championship standings.

Since the team is only three points out of the top six, there is hope that a bid for promotion in 2024 may be imminent.

Importance Callum O’Hare’s future

Mark Robins Coventry City

The return of Callum O’Hare to the Coventry club as a vital member of the squad is one factor contributing to even more optimism heading into the second half of the season.

The midfield player only made 11 appearances in the Championship last year due to injury struggles for the most of the year.

However, after making a comeback to action in October, he has steadily improved, which has greatly benefited Robins’ squad.

Having made 13 league appearances and six starts since regaining fitness, he has already provided three goals and one assist for the team this season.

However, with the January transfer market already well under way, unwelcome distractions are being caused by rumors about his imminent departure.

The midfield player, whose current contract is slated to expire in the summer, disclosed in December that he had not received an offer from the team for a new one.

Although it has since been revealed that the Championship team has tried to hold onto the 25-year-old, there is reason for serious concern regarding the lack of haste.

Maintaining O’Hare past this January will be essential since Coventry might be inclined to sell him to avoid losing him for nothing at the conclusion of the season.

Without a doubt, the team’s success in getting promoted last season was largely due to his injury, but if he were to miss out this year, it might happen again.
