Alistair Johnston reportedly had a “suspected fracture” during Celtic’s 2-1 victory over Hibs, according to The Sun.

After the defender was the victim of a late, careless challenge that cost Celtic a penalty, it is likely that he suffered a fracture to his cheekbone.

After four minutes of medical attention in the penalty area, Johnstone was eventually carried out on a stretcher. Adam Idah scored from the spot, and Tony Ralston replaced the Canadian on the bench.

Johnston appeared to be knocked out and landed awkwardly on the turf in the slow motion replays of the incident, which did not look good.

Ralston should start at right-back against St. Mirren on Sunday, and if a fractured cheekbone is the diagnosis, he may be in for a lengthy stint with the team.

Before a complete assessment and a recovery schedule are provided, the swelling and bruises will likely need to subside, but at the very least, it doesn’t seem probable that Johnston will play this month.
