Celtic have received a boost in their pursuit of goalkeeper Koen Casteels due to his preference for Champions League football, according to the Glasgow Times.
With Joe Hart retiring after the Scottish Cup final this weekend, Celtic are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer. Manager Brendan Rodgers is eager to sign an experienced player who can immediately step into the first team and replace Hart.
Casteels, a goalkeeper, is expected to be available this summer, with Celtic among the clubs vying for his signature.
Reportedly, Celtic have an advantage over some of their competitors in the race to sign the 31-year-old shot-stopper. Casteels is set to leave Wolfsburg on a free transfer soon and has a strong desire to play in the Champions League next season.
The Belgian goalkeeper prefers to join a club participating in Europe’s premier club competition. With Celtic having qualified for the Champions League once again, they hope this will attract Casteels to Parkhead.
