‘Toxic’: Mark Guidi implies Dermot Desmond would have to make a ‘unpopular’ choice at Celtic

If Celtic is going to move forward under Brendan Rodgers’ leadership, there are some long-standing problems that must be resolved.

Since the team lost to Kilmarnock over the weekend and the criticism has been flying at the club ever since, Mark Guidi thinks majority shareholder Dermot Desmond needs to address something “toxic” that is going on behind the scenes at Celtic.

It just looks toxic, Guidi stated [on The Go Radio Football Show]. Behind the scenes at Celtic, it appears poisonous.

And I mentioned something has to give in this program two or three weeks ago. The current configuration is not what the fans have.

“I believe that the boardroom and recruiting are the main targets of their ire. The manager isn’t above reproach, and his fans aren’t absolving him either.

“People are vying for positions behind the scenes, and I believe we can all connect the dots.”

And in the end, Dermot Desmond will decide everything. Being the dominant shareholder may require you to make important choices at this point. ones that might not go down well with coworkers you’ve worked with for a while.

Therefore, Dermot Desmond must choose, “Who do I want to stay at my football club who can lead us best in certain departments?” and proceed accordingly.

At Celtic, something is not quite right.

Although I am not aware of what goes on behind the scenes at Celtic, it is obvious that something is wrong even by simply observing the merchandise at the park.

I posted on TBR Celtic that Rodgers should quit babbling about bringing in quality players during the January transfer window.

Why? To put it another way. Imagine putting forth your best effort every day at work and then hearing your supervisor openly state that the team he has available lacks the requisite quality.

Indeed, that is evident to all of us, but voicing this publicly will do nothing to boost the players’ self-esteem or their manager’s.

The club’s recruitment strategy also confounds supporters; among the most bizarre things I can recall happening at the club in a long time is having players sign summer contracts worth millions of pounds and receive five-year contracts, only to find out months later that they are not good enough.

Whatever Desmond needs to do, he needs to do it quickly, because if the current situation persists, this season could end without a trophy.
