Before he enters the summer transfer market, Brendan Rodgers has pledged to “fire up” the team, according to a report from CQN.
Prior to that, though, the winners hope to sign long-term deals with intriguing youths Rocco Vata and Daniel Kelly, as well as Republic of Ireland international Liam Scales.
Both of the young players have scored their first goals for the Hoops as they quickly advance, and Rodgers has been impressed by both in their few appearances this season.
Son of former Celt Rudi, winger Vata scored his first goal in the 5-0 Scottish Cup victory against Buckie Thistle in January, and midfielder Kelly scored his first goal with a standout performance in the 7-1 league victory over Dundee the previous month. Both players are members of the Irish Under-21 group.
The 18-year-old powerhouse’s contract expires at the end of the current season, and RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen of the Bundesliga have been linked to him.
But according to a Daily Record story, the Hoops are keen to resolve his future rather than take a chance on losing him for training compensation at almost £400,000.
With Vata, who is also eighteen, things are similar. Serie A teams Bologna and Como are keeping an eye on him, and Celtic are eager for the wide player to sign a contract extension.
With 15 months remaining on his contract after Carl Starfelt left for Celta Viga in the summer, Scales has filled the void left by Starfelt, but Rodgers wants the versatile defender from Shamrock Rovers to commit to the Parkhead team for the long term.
