‘I am surprised by the narrative’: Andy Walker fires shots at Celtic man after transfer claim

After Celtic suffered back-to-back defeats in December, the mood and the reaction from the fans wasn’t too pleasant.

You could hear it loud and clear during the loss against Hearts ‘sack the board’. This was Celtic experiencing its lowest moments in years.

Brendan Rodgers made it clear back in November that he wants ‘quality’ added to his squad via the transfer market.

But Andy Walker is ’surprised’ that the Irishman went down that road for weeks and now he is talking about ‘developing players’, as he told Go Radio.

Nicolas Kuhn has been the only arrival this month, and that a winger. Not only is it frustrating for fans that only one player has joined, but that in a spot that didn’t need updating because there are plenty of numbers fighting for it.

Either way, this is probably a case of Celtic being pro-active in the market, with Andy Walker making his feelings clear on what he’s hearing from the boss now.

Celtic’s January transfer window

“I am surprised by the narrative that Brendan had for a few weeks, ‘we need quality and we need players in’,” said Walker.

“And now it’s ‘I happy to develop players’. He’s penning that line. The ‘we need quality’, it was really strong. I felt it was really loud. ‘We are desperate for quality and I want to work with quality’.

“But maybe things are different now.

“I get it. There is another week to go. You might still get that quality he was making reference to after those defeats.”

Any surprises in the offing?

Given that Celtic fans aren’t probably expecting a host of players to walk through the doors, perhaps the powers that be will pull off a surprise.

Look, more than likely, it’s not going to happen, but at the very least, this left-back situation needs to be sorted out.

Greg Taylor is now injured, with Alexandro Bernabei starting the 1-0 win over Ross County on Saturday – some are surprised he is still at the club.

Surely a left-back will arrive, but those in the financial department will argue that Bernabei probably needs to be taken off the wage bill for that to happen

All in all, it’s rather frustrating, with the only massive positive that the team is sitting top of the table.
