Former West Ham and Scotland midfielder Robert Snodgrass has said that Mikey Johnston has made the right move in leaving Celtic.

With two goals in his previous three games for the Baggies, the 24-year-old feels that the move was essential, according to Snodgrass.

Speaking with Sky Sports, Snodgrass said that the Ireland internationalist found it challenging to express himself because of the competition at Celtic.

To be very honest with you, I believe that Mikey Johnston benefited greatly by him simply leaving Celtic.

“He was not receiving enough playing time, nor was he given the opportunity to showcase his skills. After playing five games, he has scored two goals in the previous three. I always had the feeling that he would be replaced at Celtic, regardless of what he accomplished.

As you saw from the previous season, they had some excellent wingers, and when they signed the young player Kuhn, I believe he realized that it was time for him to try and make a move.

“I believe you saw with his goal midweek, the way he cuts inside and bends it into the far corner, that he is going to West Brom with a manager that wants him to express himself. That’s Mikey Johnston; he’s clearly made the right decision because I didn’t get to see that at Celtic.

In an effort to increase his playing time, the 24-year-old joined the EFL Championship team on loan until the end of the season, and it is evident that he is making the desired impact. Johnston is receiving a lot of positive feedback from West Brom supporters, who will probably want to extend the contract in the summer.

Johnston had made 92 appearances for Celtic, contributing 12 assists and 13 goals. When talking about Johnston, Celtics supporters will undoubtedly use the word frustrating. Unfairly, the Irishman gets flak for being a homegrown talent who hasn’t exactly been kicked on.
