Rangers are in late-night negotiations to complete a new signing – source

Oscar Cortes is getting closer to moving to Ibrox before the January deadline, and Rangers and Lens were involved in overnight negotiations over a loan agreement for him, according to the Daily Record.

The Ibrox club is still pursuing this, and the newspaper revealed through their print edition [30 January, rear page] that discussions had taken place between the two teams during the night.

In recent days, Cortes has been strongly connected to a move to Rangers; some sources even suggested he was on his way to Glasgow; however, such rumors have since been denied as talks are still in progress.

Something to observe

Talks are ongoing around the clock with the goal of securing a loan move as the window closes, and Rangers seem to be making every effort to see this deal through.

Any agreement to bring Cortes to Ibrox is probably contingent on a purchase commitment in the summer, which allows Rangers to defray the expense of this transfer window and start the summer with the permanent signing of a player they believe to be exciting.

The winger, who joined to Lens on a permanent deal in 2022, spent the previous season on loan at Millonarios in Colombia. He has only made four appearances in Ligue 1 this season, recording one goal and one assist.
