Blackburn player of the year Sammie Szmodics has been illuminating the Championship and drawing attention with his abundance of goals.
It’s understandable that former Celtic player Peter Grant views Szmodics as a possible transfer target for Celtic given his 27 goals this season across all competitions. Grant warns that finding someone with such a skill won’t be inexpensive.
Szmodics’s reputation has been enhanced by rumors that he may be moving to Celtic Park.
However, Grant underlined on Go Radio the financial consequences of landing a player of Szmodics’ caliber, speculating that a transfer cost would approach £10 million considering his current contract status with Blackburn Rovers, which is set to expire in two more years.
“He’s not a striker, but he scores a ton of goals. I saw him at Colchester as a young player before he moved to Peterborough, and I was really impressed with him.”
“I enjoy attending games without having any idea about the personnel.” He leaped out at me, as some people do, and I thought, ‘This kid can play.’ Shortly after that, he moved to Peterborough.
“The Championship is a really tough league, and it’s even harder if you’re not playing with one of the top sides. He’s a goal threat, and he scored goals.” Above all, he is a talented football player with a great eye for goal, especially in crucial situations.
“He’s a versatile player who can score goals for any team.” He will be expensive if his contract is still in place; players who score goals in the Championship will always be expensive.
When asked what the possible cost may be, Grant said, “Nearly £10 million.”
The prospective move seems to have the potential to be a significant acquisition for the Hoops. Although it’s obvious that he’s a talented player, it’s unclear whether Celtic would try to spend that kind of money on many players this summer.
