Although Zinedine Zidane, the former Real Madrid and France star, recently expressed his admiration for Lubomir Moravcik, Celtic players rarely receive recognition from some of the best in the industry.
As a 33-year-old, Lubo was a bit of an unknown when he joined the team in 1998. The Slovakian didn’t have a lot of fans, but when they saw him in action, their mouths dropped.
“I have an interview with Zinedine Zidane, who says he is his favorite French football player,” he continued.
In the days before social media and the like, it was hard for fans to learn about their club’s new recruits through any other means than word of mouth.
Had Lubo’s video footage circulated prior to his signing, there probably would have been a lot more enthusiasm surrounding his signing than there actually was. However, this would have taken away from the beauty and surprise of his talent, which is perhaps what made his time at Celtic so unique.
