Josh Windass asserts he is aware of the true cause of Rangers’ reduction of Celtic’s derby allocation.

Josh Windass claims he knows the real reason why Rangers cut Celtic's derby allocation

Celtic fans will probably be fed up with hearing about rumblings surrounding their Glasgow Derby allocation at Ibrox after years of back and forth between both clubs.Ever since Rangers slashed the Hoops’ allocation from 8000 to 600 in May 2018 during Brendan Rodgers’ first tenure as boss [Scotsman], many moving parts have engulfed what has become a tiresome debate.

The official party line at the time was to accommodate more home supporters, but we all know that Odsonne Edouard’s winning goal in Celtic’s 3-2 victory across the city back in 2018 probably had just as big of a part to play.

Six years later, no away fans have been present at either match this term, and it is unclear what the statutory number of visiting supporters would stand at should there ever be a future agreement found regarding supporters being admitted into each other’s stadiums.

Reports earlier this year claimed that negotiations were ongoing over a potential allocation returning for the final two league fixtures of this season. Nevertheless, there have been no official lines of communication since.

In what seems like a never-ending saga, hopefully, some form of agreement will be found ahead of the Bhoys’ trip to Ibrox on April 7th.

Josh Windass claims he knows why Celtic’s allocation was cut

Josh Windass played for Rangers between 2016 and 2018 and never managed to taste success against Celtic, though he has made some rather honest claims on why he believes the Hoops’ away support was significantly diminished.

The 30-year-old also urged both clubs to come to some form of reconciliation ahead of future Glasgow Derby encounters.

“Now they’ve stopped the away crowds, it’s not good. I think they did it because Celtic just kept winning.

“Then, Rangers cut the allocation, and Celtic cut it as well. It’s genuinely the most intense derby in the world.”

Whatever the reasoning, rivalries are enhanced by two sets of supporters generating an atmosphere, providing the players with a cauldron of noise to feed off of in search of bragging rights.
